2023 Renault Captur captured in SA

March 29, 2023

It's hard to believe that the Renault Captur has been around for ten years. Yes, it’s one of those niche’ models but time certainly has gone by in a rush and we haven’t been able to capture it all. March 2023 has marked the introduction of the all-new Renault Capture. Here’s what you can expect.

Aesthetics

In its previous shape, which feels like it overstayed its welcome, the Captur looked gentle and adorable with its soft lines and rounded looks. The new Renault Captur speaks a different language and we give it the thumbs up. Looks are subjective so we’ll allow you to make up your mind about the French brand’s latest design.

Safety & Tech

Car manufacturers across the board are constantly improving on their vehicle's safety features, and it’s something they like to boast about, understandably so. The new Renault Capture holds 5 stars on the Euro NCAP safety rating board, offering a total of six airbags, the usual ABS, EBA, EBD and Hill Start Assist. Additional safety features include Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Assist and Traffic Sign recognition. As a parent, you’ll be delighted to know that it not only has ISOFIX child seat anchors at the rear but the front passenger seat is also fitted with them.

On the tech front, you can expect Renault’s famous key card for keyless entry and start, a 9.3-inch media screen with smartphone mirroring and navigation, as well as three driving modes - Eco, Normal and Sport. Boot space has been improved to 404 litres and can increase to 536 litres if you slide the rear bench forward. Fold the rear seat and you have 1275 litres of loading space. Who needs a van these days anyway?

Engine & performance

The Captur is powered by the brand's 1.3l turbo petrol engine with F1-inspired technology. In this application, it produces 113kW and 270Nm of torque through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. There are gear shift pedals at the back of the steering wheel should you wish to dictate the gear selection at any given moment. Renault claims a combined fuel consumption of 6.6l/100km owing to that gearbox.

How much is the new Renault Captur?

With only two model grades available, the new Captur clicks in at R454 999 and comes with a 5-year/150 000km mechanical warranty, and a 3-year/45 000km service plan. In this department, the Koreans are still leading with Kia offering a 5-year unlimited km warranty and a 5-year 90 000km service plan on its Seltos crossover.
